One of the earliest records of the Durbin name in America
is that of Samuel Durbin who, on July 4, 1723,
married Ann Logsdon in Baltimore, Maryland. Over time, their descendants
migrated westward,
with at least a few settling in Ohio. Recently,
we found information through the help of several other Durbin
researchers that in our estimation securely connects my husband's earliest known ancestor in Ohio
-- Thomas L. C. Durbin --
to the Durbins of England and Baltimore.
We have
also been discussing the origins of the Durbins in America, knowing that Samuel
Durbin and Ann Logsdon Durbin
were the founders of our branch of the family
tree. However, to clarify something that is held as tradition but IS NOT FACT,
I have REMOVED the possible progenitors of Samuel
Durbin from this website so that their presence will not make it
appear that the idea of one Durbin ancestor is the
"absolute truth."
